Open Letter – November 15, 2006

Today’s Land Use & Economic Development Committee Meeting on Supervisor Fiona Ma’s Resolution on Preserving Recreational Space (File #061493)

FOGG is very pleased with the turnout and testimony by our members and, the supporters of the San Francisco Tennis Club today.  It was truly a large and representative group.  The testimony by all those who talked was to the point and succinct.  It made a very positive impression on Supervisors Sophie Maxwell, Gerardo Sandoval and Jake McGoldrick.

Right off the bat Supervisor Sandoval put his name on the resolution as a co-sponsor, and then Supervisor McGoldrick followed suit.  Both questioned the staff and City attorney with good questions, and endorsed the legislation with a few requested changes in the language.

We owe Supervisor Fiona Ma a good deal of thanks for her efforts in putting forth this resolution.

As there will be some language changes that we believe will strengthen the purpose of the resolution, a final vote on the resolution was held over until the next Committee Meeting on Wednesday, December 6. We will reconfirm date, time, and room number when it becomes available.

With the support of Supervisor Maxwell’s Committee we feel quite hopeful the legislation will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for enactment, but we can’t let our guard down.  We must continue letting the Supervisors know that we strongly support this resolution, and urge you to continue with your emails and phone calls.  If you have not already done so, please go to the Board of Supervisors (click on this) and let each of them know you support this resolution.  As the saying goes “It ain’t over until it’s over.”

Finally, since there is a delay in adopting the resolution until December 6, there will be NO press conference on Tuesday, November 21.  We will advise you as soon as it is rescheduled.

Again, thanks a million for everyone’s support, and let’s keep at it.
