Friends of Golden Gateway wishes everyone a very Happy Holiday Season and a healthy New Year. FOGG has again, with the help of our friends, succeeded in keeping our open recreational space free from the encroachment of proposed development.
As you are aware, FOGG and Save Our San Francisco Tennis Club (SOSFTC) have gained some valuable time by having the Board of Supervisors approve by unanimous vote (11-0) the Interim Zoning Conditional Use Authorization Resolution (File# 061493). This gives 18 months for the drafting and approval of permanent legislation to protect recreational space from development throughout the City. The key point is that if a developer wants to obtain a Conditional Use Permit, he would have to replace of like-kind the recreational space on a one for one basis, and at the same location (at GGTSC, 9 tennis courts, 2 swimming pools, etc.).
It is now very important that you let your Supervisors know that we appreciate their “yes” vote on the recreational resolution, and ask them to support the permanent legislation. Contact information for the Board of Supervisors can be found at the link on this web site.
FOGG will keep you advised as the legislation preparation progresses.
FOGG appreciates everyone’s commitment to open recreational space. FOGG wants to acknowledge the great support from other community organizations including the Barbary Coast Neighborhood Association, the Telegraph Hill Dwellers, San Francisco Tomorrow, and District 3 Supervisor & Board President, Aaron Peskin, who has been with us all the way. Thank you Supervisor Peskin!
AGAPE, our parent non-profit foundation, is now offering grants to support such grassroots groups as FOGG. We are looking for volunteers to help write our grant proposal. If you have a little time to provide expertise please contact Lee Radner at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (415) 986-2896.  Our letter of intent must be submitted by January 31, 2007. If approved, FOGG will have until March 1, 2007 to submit a full proposal. Grant awards will be made by April 30, 2007. We could receive up to $5,000 if our grant proposal is approved.
Now that 2006 is coming to an end, we wish once again to thank the many who have made their tax deductible donation to FOGG. Remember that our successes this year include many hours of research and hard work not only by volunteers, but also by our worthy attorney.
We ask you to make that tax deductible contribution for 2006. Please make a check out to AGAPE/FOGG, write on the memo line “For tax deduction – 2006”, and send to Jim Eggert, Treasurer, 550 Davis St. #46, San Francisco, CA. 94111. Or you can go to the donations link on this web site and make your donation there. We do appreciate your support.
With all FOGG team members pitching in we can make 2007 even a better year than this year. Then, with permanent legislation in place, we can participate in our Club’s activities without fearing that another developer is around the corner. We hope we can say in 2008 that it was all worth the effort these many years. With your help, it can happen and will!
Thanks again, and Happy Holidays!
