FOGG Open Letter – April 23, 2009

FOGG is moving into new directions in our effort to save the Golden Gateway Tennis & Swim Club (GGT&SC) from the proposed high priced condominium/parking garage development, and dramatic reduction (52%) of our open recreational space.

The process of reviewing and updating the SF Port’s Waterfront Land Use Plan is just getting underway.  Thanks to 3rd District Supervisor and Board President David Chiu, who insisted there must be a review of overall planning for the Northeast Waterfront corridor, a series of community workshops over the next 6 to 8 months to put together an updated WLUP is about to begin.

All stakeholders will be asked to participate.  This, of course, will include FOGG.  While we will approach these workshops in a positive and constructive manner, FOGG will continue to stand firm that development that reduces the Club site to nothing more than a shadow of its former self, and no doubt change its profile from a family orientated Club to one for the privileged few cannot be allowed.

As the workshops progress we will keep our FOGG supporters apprised with updates.

On another front, FOGG volunteers have been very busy collecting signatures in our Petition Drive to support efforts to preserve our open recreational space.  Many of you have already signed up, and we are continuing to add more names on a daily basis.

We thank all of our new Petition volunteers for helping us!  We cannot do this without you.  Remember, Simon Snellgrove’s people are paid – we are volunteers.

Many of our supporters have not had the opportunity to sign up.  We will be happy to send you a Petition form, not only for your signature, but you can volunteer and help by adding more names with those who support our cause.  We are about halfway to our goal of 2,000 or more signatures.  Eventually, the Petitions will be presented to the proper authorities (Planning Commissioners, Board of Supervisors).  THEY DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

If you want to help, you can do so by email to coaches@fogg.us or by calling Lee Radner at 415-986-2896.  We will send you the Petition forms by mail or email so you can do your part in FOGG’s campaign.

We are committed to preserving our Club.  It has been here for over 40 years and we want it to be here for 40 more years.  We need your help.
