FOGG ALert – July 15, 2011

YOU CAN HELP SAVE OUR COMMUNITY OPEN RECREATIONAL CENTER (Golden Gateway Tennis & Swim Club)

On Thursday, July 21, 2011 The SF Planning Commission will be hearing the DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT (DEIR) for the 8 Washington Street luxury condominiums and 420 space underground parking garage project on the Club site.

The DEIR can be read at this link.  8 Washington St – Seawall Lot 351 Project

We urge you to attend the SF Planning Commission Meeting on Thursday, July 21, 2011.

If you wish to testify – very important that we are represented, please contact Lee Radner, FOGG Chair at 415-986-2896.  Lee will discuss the specifics of testimony on the DEIR.

As we are all aware, this project, if approved, will demolish and close our Community Recreational Center for at least 3 years.

What is here now will all be gone.  The existing Recreation Center’s 9 tennis courts and 2 outdoor pools will be replaced with 4 tennis courts and 2 pools on top of a building along the Embarcadero, not taking into account the wind factor or noise and air pollution from traffic.  Outdoor recreational space would be reduced by 52%.  When you read even small parts of the DEIR, you will see what a massive change to our neighborhood this will cause.

The meeting is at City Hall Room 400 and begins at 12:00 noon.  The DEIR is Item 13 on the Agenda.  The Agenda can be read at this link.

Agenda

We ask you to be at City Hall between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm to testify or offer support.

Your attendance will make an important statement of support and we look forward to hearing from you.

If you cannot attend the Meeting, you can watch it on your computer at SF Gov TV, Channel 2.  Here is the link.  SF Gov TV.
