Subject: MOBILIZE THIS SATURDAY TO PUT THE 8 WASHINGTON PROJECT “WALL ON THE WATERFRONT” ON THE BALLOT — LET’S MAKE HISTORY!

Dear Friend,

Over the last two weeks, hundreds of people from across San Francisco have joined forces to do something that hasn’t been done in more than two decades: qualify a voter referendum for the San Francisco ballot to give the people a chance to decide whether an ill-conceived Board of Supervisors-approved ordinance should become law or be repealed.

On June 20th, the Mayor unfortunately signed an ordinance that – unless we qualify this referendum – would begin to profoundly and detrimentally reshape San Francisco’s historic waterfront by enacting the first big upzoning of the northern San Francisco waterfront in modern history. The upzoning of a portion of the northern waterfront for the proposed 8 Washington Project’s high-rise luxury condo complex would take us back to the bad-old-days when we had a hulking mass called “The Embarcadero Freeway” creating a gigantic wall on the waterfront. The proposed spot upzoning for the 8 Washington Project would actually create a wall more than 50 feet HIGHER than the old Embarcadero Freeway was.

This is an historic shift in direction for San Francisco — and something that the voters should get to consider and decide before it becomes the law of the land.

But that will only happen if you join us now.

This Saturday, July 7th at 10:00 am at 15 Columbus Avenue in North Beach, an historic coalition of neighborhood groups, tenants, seniors, and environmental leaders from across San Francisco will gather together as we mobilize to kick-start the second phase of the No Wall on the Waterfront Referendum Petition drive.  Already, hundreds of people have collected thousands of petition signatures in less than two weeks. But to reach our goal of 28,000 signatures by Thursday, July 19, we need everyone who cares about San Francisco’s future to lend a hand.

Please join us.

FIGHT BACK AGAINST THE 8 WASHINGTON PROJECT’S “WALL ON THE WATERFRONT”! LET THE VOTERS DECIDE!

THE PEOPLE WANT YOU TO JOIN THE FIGHT: COME TO A HISTORIC MOBILIZATION THIS SATURDAY AS WE BEGIN THE FINAL 11 DAYS OF A PETITION DRIVE TO PUT THE 8 WASHINGTON “SPOT-ZONING” REFERENDUM ON BALLOT
