FOGG Open Letter-November 20, 2017

THANKSGIVING GREETINGS – 2017

This is the 14th FOGG Thanksgiving we are celebrating with you!  We cannot believe we’ve been together for so long.

Thanks to your support during these 14 years, our community’s recreational club, Bay Club – The Gateway is still here, as was intended decades ago.  Our club continues to provide a healthful environment for our many families, children, seniors and almost anyone who wants to be there.

FOGG’s Summer Kids Camps Scholarship Program completed its 7th year, and was again a success for those youngsters from low income housing areas who attended.

We thank the staffs at the Chinatown Development Community Center (CDCC), and the Booker T. Washington Center (BTWC) for their cooperation in selecting the youngsters to attend the Kids Camp Program.   These kids enjoyed the swimming, tennis, and many other social activities provided by the Club’s professional staff and volunteers.

We added to our many Kids Camps corporation supporters Safeway Foundation and Pier 39, and sincerely thank them for joining us.  FOGG looks forward to additional support in the coming 2018 summer program.

In our FOGG Alert of October 15, 2017, we advised you how you can financially support the fire victims in the North Bay Counties, and that the Bay Club management will match dollar for dollar in donations.

That matching offer is still available for your tax deductible donations by writing a check to FOGG/PDF, writing FIRE VICTIMS on memo line, and mail to Friends of Golden Gateway, P. O. Box 2294, San Francisco, CA 94126.

On September 4, 2017, we advised you that the State Lands Commission (SLC) lawsuit was tentatively moved to January 10, 2018.  The date as of this writing remains the same.

This is the lawsuit brought by the SLC, chaired by Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom against the city of San Francisco asking Superior Court to overturn the SF voter’s approval of Proposition B, passed in June 2014.

Proposition B requires voter approval before a developer can exceed the present height limits on San Francisco Port waterfront properties.

FOGG believes that Newsom would like to see this lawsuit resolved before he gets into full gear for his election effort to become the California Governor in November 2018.

All is calm on the development front.  We have heard nothing recently about any possible development proposal for the 8 Washington site, but FOGG remains alert for any possible changes.

FOGG wishes our very best for a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday, and again thanks to our many supporters and friends we have made these past 14 years.

State Lands Commission Lawsuit – 7th Update – Trial Date Changed

FOGG wants to update you on a recent development on this ongoing lawsuit.

The lawsuit filed by the State Lands Commission (SLC) vs. the City of San Francisco has now been delayed from September 11, 2017.

It has tentatively been scheduled for January 10. 2018.

You may recall that Proposition B, passed by the San Francisco voters in June, 2014 requires voter approval before a developer can exceed the present height limits on San Francisco Port waterfront properties.

The decision to change the date of the trial occurred because an expert witness for the SLC was a party “to attorney-client communications concerning Proposition B during the time he worked for the Port of San Francisco.”

You may read the entire Court statement at the Page link on this website.

FOGG will continue to monitor this lawsuit, and keep you advised.

Summer Kids Camps Scholarship Program – 2017 – Update 7

This year’s Summer Kids Camps Scholarship Program will end in just a few days.

FOGG wants to thank once again our supporters of the Scholarship program, now ending its 7th successful year.

With the help of these FOGG supporters, corporations and of course the Bay Club management, we sent another 50 plus youngsters from low income housing areas to a summer of fun and learning.

FOGG particularly wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the Kids Camps staff, its counselors and volunteers for their many hours of love and care for these young girls and boys.

Please see the photo Page link on this website showing some of the activities the kids participated in at Kids Camp.  We thank Pauline Chan of the Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC) for providing them.

FOGG looks forward to the 8th year of the Kids Camps Scholarship Program, as we know you will be there once again for the kids.

State Lands Commission Lawsuit – 6th Update – Trial Date

San Francisco Superior Court Judge Suzanne Ramos Bolanos has issued a formal order denying both the State Lands Commission (SLC) and the City of San Francisco Summary Judgement motions.

Judge Bolanos has stated that the trial would begin on Monday, September 11, 2017.

You may recall that Proposition B, passed by the San Francisco voters in June, 2014 requires voter approval before a developer can exceed the present height limits on San Francisco Port waterfront properties.

In denying the SLC’s major claim that Proposition B on its face invalid in any of its applications, this is a big win for our side.

The SLC must now prove that the height limits on Pier 70 and Mission Rock projects, with the increases in height limits that the voters approved are “subjugated” to statewide concerns to local interests on one or both of these projects.

You can read the entire formal order at the Page link on this website.

FOGG will keep you up to date on any further changes and the exact time and place of the September 11th trial.

We want to recognize the work and support that Lela Woltjer, Kids Camps Director, her assistant Ranya Abdelfattah, and the dedicated counseling staff and volunteers who are giving so much love and concern for the kids.

There is still time to bring more youngsters into the Scholarship Program, with additional tax deductible donations from those who would wish to contribute.
