The original and ongoing mission of the Friends of Golden Gateway (FoGG) organization is to protect, retain and ameliorate the open recreational space currently operated as the Bay Club at The Gateway. FoGG was founded in 2005 and is a 5013c entity operating under the auspices of PDF.
A secondary yet long standing mission of FoGG is to raise funds for scholarships so that under-privileged youngsters may attend the Bay Club summer camp. This is a charitable operation and donations are taxable deductible.
As of this writing there are no current apparent redevelopment or takeover threats to the current operations of the Club. Therefore the current primary activity of the organization is the secondary mission: raising funds for summer camp scholarships.
Also, because of no threats, the FoGG organization is run in a lightweight or “peacetime” mode. Overall guidance for FoGG is provided by liaison with the Golden Gateway Tenants Association (GGTA) and the Barbary Coast Neighborhood Association (BCNA). The position of spokesman or chairperson for FoGG is ex officio. The position may be filled by either the chairman or committee of the GGTA or the BCNA or both.
The FoGG organization currently has three staff positions:
Unlike FoGG neither local association is a registered charities. Close attention is paid to ensure that the division of duties and legal obligations between FoGG and the neighborhood organizations is well differentiated and clearly spelled out.
